Spencer has worked a director/musical director for many different theatres across the Bay Area and beyond. He started at the collegiate level musical directing City of Angels  for the University of Pennsylvania while living in Philadelphia. Since moving to the Bay Area, he has worked at San Jose Repertory Theatre (30th Anniversary Gala Party with songs from 1940’s Radio Hour, Making Tracks and Spring Awakening ), San Jose Stage Company (Avenue Q, 1776,The Great American Trailer Park Musical and Altar Boyz ) and Foothill College (Bat Boy ). 

At the educational level, Spencer has directed the following shows: Shrek (2015), Snoopy!!! (2014), Les Misérables (2014), The Bay Area High School Musical Theatre Showcase (2013), The Sound of Music (2013), Dames at Sea (2012), Bye Bye Birdie (2011), The Wedding Singer (2010), and High School Musical (2009).

Bay Area High School Musical Theatre Awards

  • Directed yearly award program that culminated in a gala event for over
  • 1000 students/parents/adminstration from schools across the Bay Area
  • Coordinated all logistics for 20 adjudicators to see between 15-25 musicals a year
  • Aggregated data from over 80 adjudication forms and created nominations based on data
  • Wrote and directed the gala event at California Theatre, San Jose, CA – included at least 200 students performing in event
  • Chaperoned award-winning students to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, NY for one week at New York University
